Fergie: Childhood


Fergie was born to Terri Jackson and Patrick Ferguson, in Hacienda Heights, California. Her parents are of Mexican, Scottish and Irish heritage. They were both Catholic schoolteachers.


As well as attending Glen A. Wilson High School and Mesa Robles Middle School, she attended dance school, where her mother found her an agent who sourced voiceover work for her. Fergie provided the voices for Lucy and Sally in the Peanuts cartoon. 


Fergie was a straight-A student and even won a spelling bee. In the summer holidays, between 1984-9, she performed chart hits on the TV show Kids Incorporated.


Fergie: Musical Career


Fergie formed a band, Wild Orchid, with fellow Kids Incorporated star Renee Sandstrom and Stefanie Ridel. The band released two albums but their label refused to release their third and Fergie left the band as a result.


Will.i.am of the band Black Eyed Peas invited Fergie to record the song 'Shut Up' for their 2003 album Elephunk. The band liked the recording and got on so well with her that they asked her to record an additional five songs for the album. She soon became a permanent member of the band.


During a performance in 2005, Fergie accidentally urinated onstage.


Fergie's solo album, The Dutchess was released in 2006, though she retained her duties working with Black Eyed Peas. Will.i.am was the executive producer for her solo debut.


The album spawned six hit singles. 'London Bridge', 'Glamorous', 'Big Girls Don't Cry', 'Clumsy' and 'Finally' were all number one singles. She won the title of 'Favourite Female Artist at the American Music Awards in 2007. Later on that year, she performed at Wembley Stadium as a part of the concert for the late Princess Diana that was arranged by Diana's two sons, Prince William and Prince Harry.
